Regence Blue Shield of Washington

Regence Blue Shield of Washington is a not-for-profit health insurance company and the largest affiliation of health care Plans in the Pacific Northwest/Mountain region including Regence BlueShield (WA), Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon, Regence BlueShield of Idaho, and Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah.  We are actually a large fan of Regence but in Washington they are a little more expensive than KPS, GroupHealth, and LifeWise (and maybe even Premera Blue Cross except that they have no plans this year yet).  But remember, Premera Blue Cross and Regence Blue Shield are not affiliated and in fact are competing for your individual health insurance dollar in Washington.

There are four plans in Washington from Regence including the Evolve Plus, Evolve Core, Evolve HSA, and the more comprehensive Evolve HSA 100.  The Evolve Plus is the more comprehensive plan in the traditional way including office visits and prescription coverage  (though be warned there are only four office visit copays) and comes in flavors of 1000, 2500, 5000, and 7500 deductibles.

The Evolve Core (we jokingly call it the Evolve minus) is the same thing as the plus with no prescription coverage, higher copays, and higher coinsurance percents and ceilings.  (I am sure you don’t understand that part unless you are very familiar with health insurance but basically it means higher out of pocket exposure).

The Evolve HSA plans are pretty simple too, and the Evolve HSA 100 has no coinsurance and is 100% coverage after a 5k deductible.  The Evolve HSA’s have coinsurance after the deductible.  These Regence HSA plans are basically good ways of saving on your taxes and getting major medical coverage.
