East Coast Health Insurance offers six main companies in the Richmond, Virginia health insurance market including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia, AARP, Coventry, Optima Health Insurance, and United Health Care.
Our preliminary studies in the Richmond health insurance market were very indicative of the fact that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia has the best rates in not only Richmond, but Virginia as well. Optima health insurance also has outstanding rates and in many demographics even beats Blue Cross Blue Shield. One problem I keep running into in Virginia is that Blue Cross and Optima offer totally different plan designs from Aetna, AARP, and United Health Care which are pretty standard nationwide.
For instance, the Blue Cross plan with a $2500 deductible has no coinsurance, which makes it substantially better then the other plans from Aetna, AARP, and United. Optima is even more difficult to compare as they have even more varied and distinct plan designs than Blue Cross.
So, besides Blue Cross and Optima which plans do we recommend in Richmond, Virginia? AARP, certainly, if you are over 55 and/or have a medical condition that necessitates a prescription medication. They have the most lax and simplified underwriting of any of the companies and are the most reliable in just about every category. Aetna is also outstanding with their plans and benefits but where they fall short in Richmond, and Virginia for that matter is pricing which is just too high in most demographics.
Finally, there is United Health One, which is simply OK, but again they are not even close to as affordable as the other companies here. My advice? Shop your own Richmond health insurance plans now.
