Reno Health Insurance

“The Biggest Little City in the World” is a miniature Las Vegas in many ways, as Reno’s cultural and economical staples are also the casino and entertainment industries. The city where Harrah’s Entertainment was founded, Reno is also home to International Game Technology, who produces many of the slot machines found throughout the world. Contrasting the core source of Reno’s tourism and business, the city also has a significant appreciation for the visual arts through the Nevada Museum of Art, as well as the downtown Arts District, filled with galleries, local shops, and dining establishments. Reno also offers its residents an abundance of nearby natural spaces, historical attractions, parks, and outdoor activities – much more than just a casino town.

As the city is several hours from Las Vegas, health insurance in Reno is a bit different in cost and selection from its larger urban counterpart. With a smaller selection of insurance companies than Las Vegas, Reno is still served by six carriers. With HMOs from Health Plan of Nevada and PPOs from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Humana, UnitedHealthOne, and Sierra Health and Life, Reno individuals and families have plenty of options. Throughout the state, health insurance remains in a very affordable range compared to other areas of the country. Sample Reno Health Insurance Quote

Reno health insurance can be most adequately described by running a test quote to demonstrate affordable comprehensive plans and a sample set of rates. In this example, a sample applicant who is a 30-year-old nonsmoking male resident of Reno was looking for a low cost, benefit-rich plan. In order to reach the best options, plans from each insurer with a $2500-range deductible, 20 percent coinsurance (or close), and copays for doctor’s office visits. The first plan was discovered for under $100, a PPO from Sierra Health and Life for $86 per month.

With rates this low for health insurance, it is necessary for all Reno residents to take advantage of their access to great coverage for a reasonable price. Regional carriers in particular are providing wonderful prices on individual plans, as the next lowest premium is the zero-deductible HMO Option 6 from Health Plan of Nevada for $110 for this applicant. This plan covers more upfront benefits than any other plan in Reno, as there is no deductible to meet. All of your care is available whenever you need it for a designated copay with in-network providers.

The additional carriers keep their premiums for nearly identical plans on par with on another, making it a difficult decision if you are more inclined to choose a PPO from a  national company. United and Humana offer similar coverage, which would make United the better choice at its lower premium. Anthem Blue Cross also provides a solid comprehensive plan, though perhaps slightly less appealing as its coinsurance is 5 percent above the competitors. Between all of these choices, it is clear that Sierra or Health Plan would be the top plans with the most benefits for a low cost.
