Baltimore Health Insurance

Baltimore is known for its touristy Inner Harbor and magnificent National Aquarium, as well as the Oriole Park Camden Yards that greets you upon entering the city from I-95. In addition to its attractions, Baltimore is also an important locale for the fields of science and medicine, with Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland Hospital in the city limits. The city’s industrial roots can be seen throughout the many factories transporting goods in the Harbor, and its appreciation for art and history is displayed through various museums, including the Baltimore Museum of Art. The largest city in the state, Baltimore is closely linked to nearby Washington, D.C., and serves as the cultural hub of Maryland.

One of Baltimore’s strongest selling points (though probably not the first to come to mind) is their individual health insurance market. An anomaly in terms of major cities, Baltimore is the cheapest place for a great health plan from any number of insurers. Both men and women pay the same price for coverage, which is brilliant on the account of the state’s politicians. Plans are not only priced on equal terms, but under $100 per month for a strong plan. Carriers serving the Baltimore area include Aetna, Kaiser Permanente, UnitedHealthOne, and Coventry One. Only four companies to choose from makes for an easy, inexpensive health insurance decision in Baltimore.

Sample Baltimore Health Insurance Quote

To prove just how affordable individual health insurance in Baltimore is, we created a sample quote for a female resident, age 32, living in zip code 21201. We found that she can purchase a health plan from UnitedHealthOne for as low as $80 per month with a $2500 deductible. Though office visits are not covered for a copay, this is unheard of for a female applicant in other large cities (and even small ones) throughout the country!

With prices inspiring enough to make a person want to relocate, the plan with the most benefits for the lowest cost in Baltimore is from Coventry One for $101 per month. Though the plan name may not easily roll off the tongue, the suffix “TOO” means generics are the only covered prescription benefit. Office visits are set at a $20 copay with no limit, and all other services are covered at 80 percent after deductible, therefore, one who can sacrifice the brand name drugs will get a great deal. There is another Coventry One option for $133 with a full range of prescriptions, if needed.

UnitedHealthOne raises the premium to $146 for a very comprehensive plan with $35 copays for unlimited office visits. For the greatest amount of savings, this resident should go with Coventry One, or settle with United as a backup. Each of these plans is priced very well, and as the next best option for unlimited visits and copays is a leap to $532 per month from Kaiser Permanente. The Kaiser plan does have its benefits, including coverage for vision, maternity, and prescriptions, and all care offered upfront due to the lack of deductible.
