Humana – Indiana

The history of Humana begins in 1961, with two Louisville lawyers building a nursing home named Heritage House. After the first building proved successful, they were asked to construct a series of nursing homes throughout the country. As the business grew and more homes were built, these two entrepreneurs reincorporated their venture and sold stock as Extendicare, Inc. and became the largest nursing home company in the US.

By the next decade, they had grown into a hospital-management chain and changed the company name to Humana, expanding further by bringing health insurance to the table. In the early 1980s, Humana health plans were introduced to individuals outside of their hospitals, and are now available in 30 states. Humana offers employer-sponsored health plans, individual and family coverage, military and veteran health plans, Medicare, life and supplemental, dental, vision, and pharmacy benefits.

For individual and family health insurance, Humana One covers health care through a preferred network of providers, offering basic, comprehensive, high-deductible, short term medical, and HSA-qualified plans. A few added bonuses of purchasing a Humana One plan are discounted rates for vision services, over-the-counter medications, chiropractic, and massage therapy. Choose an in-network provider for discount rates on medical care, regardless of your deductible, or use a non-network provider for a greater number of options.

Humana One Health Plans in Indiana

Copay Plans

With a strong resemblance to group health plans, these plans offer the convenience of predictable copayments for services like doctor’s office visits and generic prescriptions. Higher monthly premiums balance a lower amount of cost sharing, as these plans cover 80 percent of non-copay services after deductible. Select a plan with a higher deductible and a maximum of six covered office visits, or a lower deductible with unlimited office visits.

Preventive care is covered for free at any time during the course of your coverage, and HSAs offer tax advantages to those who decide to use one for their medical expenses.
