Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida has been offering catastrophic health plans for a very long time. In fact their in house sales team probably makes a habit of pitching their Go Blue Plans with a Florida Blue Cross Blue Shield Catastrophic plan way too much in my opinion. Go Blue is the Florida Discount plan that is very cheap and much better than most discount plans offered by other health insurance or plain old rip off health insurance companies. Their indemnity plans are alright nothing spectacular, however they are very affordable compared to other Florida Catastrophic Indemnity plans.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida indemnnity plans fall under the Blue Options plan model which is useless information unless you are running a health insurance quote for Blue Cross. Their plans as you can see below include the 570, 571, and 572. The plans that I included in this sample quote are for a 34 year old male in sunny, Boca Raton, Florida. The three plans are no more than $50 each and the benefits are all very similar. The bad thing about the Florida Blue Cross indemnity plans is that they only cover Surgical Services under several important hosptial categories. This can kill you if you need chemotherapy or any kind of chronic medical condition is to develop that needs regular follow up and procedures. I have seen this happen before and the fact is though these plans are cheap and much better than having nothing (as opposed to most indemnity plans and still way better than anything from Mega, Midwest, and so on) I would much rather see the people that are paying for the Blue Options 570 plans get full benefits.
As a further example, lets say that you are to buy the Go Blue discount card and add it to this policy, that will put your premium at around $80 per month. For an extra $20 (or 20%) I can find a full, comprehensive plan from any of our 8 Florida health insurance companies.
As you can see I am not a fan of the Go Blue – Blue Options combo pack at all! I would rather see full coverage any day.
