“You’re Going To Die Sooner!” Says Senator Tom Coburn
With the brevity of a hungry African Lion Senator Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) was very clear with what he thinks about the health care reform that’s being debate in the Senate Chambers. While addressing seniors who said “I have a message for you: You’re going to die sooner!”.
There are several Senators debating debating an amendment by Senator John McCain which will send back the bill to the Senate Finance Committee with instructions to strike medicare cuts from the bill. Health care reform advocates defended the proposed legislation stating the spending cuts will not reduce any senior health benefits.
“I’d like to once and for all lay to rest this false claim that the pending bill is going to ‘hurt seniors’ and it is going to hurt providers and it’s going to be this long parade of horribles that the other side likes to mention,” Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus said, then adding
“It is totally, patently untrue, the claims that they are making”.
Calling for over $400 billion in spending cuts for medicare over ten years a big chunk of the money comes from reducing subsidies for Medicare Advantage (which provides private health insurance for the elderly).
Baucus also argued that medicare spending will continue to grow at a staggered pace.
The bill also plans to seek Medicare savings by rewarding quality care instead of simply rewarding for the quantity of treatments and servicing.
At it’s current level the Senate debate is expected to commence for at least three more weeks as Republicans attempt to have a go at the Democratic-written bill. Democrats argue that the bill will improve senior benefits and the financial integrity of the program.
